— Midweek Meditations:
thoughts, inspiration and encouragement
from ACF community members —
Uncertainty is part of the human journey. Plans shift. Answers delay. The road ahead sometimes
fades into fog. In these moments, faith becomes the little light that burns in our hearts.
Consider the moments in your life when things eventually worked out in ways you could not
have predicted. Despite the doubts and the worries, what needed to happen, happened. We have a
sense of blind trust that most of us direct to God because we choose to believe that his plan is
worth it. That choice too is a priviledge as it is just as simple to believe that something went
wrong because I made a mistake, as it is to think that something went wrong because I needed to
learn from it. It relies heavily on the mindset and the faith.
Faith grows from remembering that the story is not finished. The bible gives us stories after
stories about how faithful Gods people were. Take Job as an example, he was a pious man, had
the life that he prayed and worked for and one day it was all taken from him, he questioned God
but he never lost faith. In times of struggle, in times of pain, in times of silent anxiety the
calming breeze of God is always with us. Trust in his plan, no matter how hard it may be, know
his plan is greater than your own.
When doubt whispers that the future is too uncertain, gently return to this truth: you are not
asked to see the entire path. You are only asked to take the next faithful step. If every single
person on this earth knew exactly how their life would pan out, there is simply no reason to live
it. No one has a „perfect“ life. Everyone suffers, in their own respectful lives. It is important to
remember that moving forward in faith is the best thing anyone can do. The next step, even if it
is into complete darkness must be taken to move forward.
I tell myself when I’m in a time of uncertainty that even though I may not understand everything
before me, I choose to trust that I am being guided, that every outcome of my decisions have a
meaning. It makes the days easier, the decisions weigh less on my shoulder and my mind clearer.
I hold steady in faith, even when the way forward is not fully visible.
Uncertainty may surround the path, but faith steadies the traveler. Take the step, in faith.
The ACF Midweek Meditations
are written by a diverse group of our church members with the intention to seek God’s fingerprints in our lives. They range from somber to humorous and are inspired by all facets of live and faith. Written by ordinary people from all walks of life, they reflect a wide range of Christian backgrounds and spiritualities.
Each week’s text portrays the individual viewpoint of its author. They might not always resonate with everyone, and are not meant to be understood as representing the Anglican Church Freiburg as a whole. Yet, as a church that is aiming to ‘Build a Community of Grace’ we seek to practice learning from and listening to one another.
We pray that these humble ponderings add a small spark of blessing to your week.
