Joint Service at St Ursula Church

September 2024

This past Sunday, 22nd October we had a wonderful joint Eucharist service with our friends of the Old Catholic congregation. During this time of Creationtide we pondered the image of a tree, enjoyed wonderful music, shared bread and wine around the altar, and connected over lovely food following the service. A big Thank You to our sisters and brothers of the St Ursula congregation for hosting us!

Ours is a dear friendship, as the Church of England and the Old Catholic Church in Germany share a special bond through the Bonn Agreement of 1931, which established full communion between Anglican and Old Catholic churches. This historic accord allows members of both churches to participate in each other’s sacraments and services, fostering a spirit of unity and mutual recognition that continues to enrich both faith communities today. In Freiburg this bond is cherished and celebrated through regular joint services, individuals that feel part of both communities, shared choir projects, and communal clergy support.

Anglicans at the Kirchentag

Tony Dickinson, a priest from the Holy Ghost Church in Genova, tells us what he thought of the Deutsche Evangelische Kirchentag in Nurnberg this year. Tony has been going to the festival for almost 40 years and used to be part of the British Committee until he moved to Italy five years ago.
