What do you have faith in?

— Midweek Meditations:
thoughts, inspiration and encouragement
from ACF community members —

Since we have moved, it has been very difficult to come and visit and be in fellowship with you all. It has been a bit of a whirlwind, with Jasmine starting kita and running the place as if she owns it, and Tatjana and I having started new jobs, with all our other engagements we have just been going from pillar to post.

In these times I have continually been tested by my faith, not just religiously but spirituality as well. Since starting my new job I have made some great friends and have built up a nice network of contacts and I have still enjoyed my coaching engagements. All of this does come at an incredible cost to my family. As many of you know who do not have blood relatives around, it can be quite trying.

This is where my faith has really been tested, I have had to have the faith to be able to work in a job where speaking a language that is not mine has been tough, I had to put faith in Jasmine’s teachers and I have had to keep my faith that the foundation of my marriage is as strong as it has ever been.

Faith to me is very important, it can make or break you, it can have you leaping from one place to the next, or it can keep you grounded. Recently I have unfortunately started seeing what it is like to have people around me who have no faith in themselves, or their environments, and it can be very challenging to me. I am not a converter and nor will I ever force my religious beliefs on anyone, but I do ask people a lot, what do you have faith in? A lot of the time it is everything else but themselves, they lack the conviction to find within themselves their meaning of self.

He said to them, “Because of your little faith. For truly, I say to you, if you have faith like a grain of mustard seed, you will say to this mountain, ‘Move from here to there,’ and it will move, and nothing will be impossible for you.”

Matthew 17 really explores this exact theme that I talk to many about. Do you believe enough that you can change the outcome of a meeting? Or winning the game with having to score between three defenders? Do we have the faith to move the mountain with the mustard seed? Mostly because we allow ourselves to be small and not want to challenge our faith.

I hope in my brief and small message to you all, that you will continue to keep faith, and allow no one to crush that faith, because without faith we cannot move towards our intended next step, by not complaining about the first step in faith.

Be Blessed much love to you all.

The ACF Midweek Meditations
are written by a diverse group of our church members with the intention to seek God’s fingerprints in our lives. They range from somber to humorous and are inspired by all facets of live and faith. Written by ordinary people from all walks of life, they reflect a wide range of Christian backgrounds and spiritualities.

Each week’s text portrays the individual viewpoint of its author. They might not always resonate with everyone, and are not meant to be understood as representing the Anglican Church Freiburg as a whole. Yet, as a church that is aiming to ‘Build a Community of Grace’ we seek to practice learning from and listening to one another.

We pray that these humble ponderings add a small spark of blessing to your week.
