Midweek Meditation: Entropy

Ever notice how a freshly cleaned room descends into chaos within days? Or how your team’s momentum fades the moment you stop paying attention? Christoph explores why our spiritual lives work the same way—and what it takes to keep them from deflating.

Come Experience “Visible – Invisible” at the Freiburg Münster

Bavarian artist Elke Maier has just completed a thread installation of breathtaking simplicity and beauty in the Freiburg Münster. Now through 28th September, you can experience it yourself.

Thousands of metres of fine white cotton yarn now weave through the cathedral’s nave—descending from the gallery, stretching across toward high altar. What makes it captivating: the threads seem to disappear and reappear depending on how sunlight catches them. As the sun moves through the day, different parts glow and fade. Visit at noon and you’ll see something entirely different from an evening visit. The installation invites you back again and again, at different times of day, to discover new perspectives. Sometimes a slight shift in where you stand reveals something completely new.

A related photo exhibition of Elke Maier’s earlier sacred space installations is on display at c punkt MÜNSTERFORUM (Herrenstraße 33), Monday–Saturday, 10 am–4 pm until 20th June. This shows her impressive work in other cathedrals across German-speaking Europe—well worth a visit while it’s still up.

Visit the cathedral’s website or explore the artist’s work at elke-maier.webnode.page.

Mark Your Diary: Special Events

Summer Party with the ACK – Sat, 13th June, 6.30 pm

You’re warmly invited to join the ACK and ecumenical partners across Freiburg for their annual summer gathering! This is a relaxed and social evening – the perfect opportunity to catch up with friends and make new ones from different churches in the city.

The evening will start with a short service, followed by a barbecue in the garden at Ev. Matthäus-Kirche (Sundgauallee 31). There’ll be a salad buffet and drinks provided – just bring some food for the barbecue and a contribution to the buffet. If the weather’s kind, the evening will conclude around the fire pit with guitars and singing.

This is a great way to experience the ecumenical spirit that makes Freiburg’s church community so special.

Changed starting time & Ecumenical Münsterplatzservice — Sun, 14th June

For the third time running, Freiburg’s churches are holding an ecumenical service at the Münsterplatz under the theme “Himmel auf Erden” (Heaven on Earth). Around 1,500 seats are available on the south side of the cathedral. Join for a full worship service with hymns, prayer, and biblical reflection, accompanied by a young band, professional sound, and the unique atmosphere of gathering under open skies. Around 1,500 seats are set up on the south side of the cathedral.

Our ACF Sunday service will start at 10:30 am to allow time for those who want to attend the Münsterplatzservice. Everyone else is invited to our Shared Lunch at church after our 10:30 am service. Please bring some food for the buffet.

ACF Fundraiser: Envelope Giving

As most of you know, our church is independent from any external funding sources, such as German taxes (Kirchesteuer), the Church of England, or other institutions. We depend on the generous donations of our members and friends to cover all our expenses (the minister’s salary, rent, insurances, diocese contributions, …).

This is why we’re excited to announce this spring’s ACF fundraiser: ‘Envelope Giving’! At church there is a display of 100 lovingly decorated envelopes, with a number on each of them: from €1 to €100. We invite you to pick one of them and donate the stated amount to the ACF via one of these ways:

  • cash donation into the envelope
put into collection basket or hand in with ACF council members or chaplain
  • card payment
via the card terminal at church, make sure to select the ‘envelope giving’ button
  • via bank transfer
    subject line: ‘envelope giving’
account details: Anglican Church Freiburg e.V., Sparkasse Freiburg
    IBAN: DE29 6805 0101 0002 5119 20, SWIFT / BIC: FRSPDE66

If you have any questions at all, do not hesitate to contact our treasurers at treasurer@anglican-church-freiburg.de.

Supporting the ACF financially

We’re so grateful for your support and prayers for our church. We are independent from any external funding sources, such as German taxes (Kirchesteuer), the Church of England, or other institutions. We depend on the generous donations of our members and friends to cover all our expenses (the minister’s salary, rent, insurances, diocese contributions, …). Unfortunately, our reserves are running low and we need your help to keep going.

We want to continue to serve God and our community with love and faithfulness. That’s why we’re asking you to consider donating to the ACF on a regular basis. By setting up a standing bank order, you can help us plan our budget and resources more effectively. It’s easy and secure, and you can cancel or change it anytime. Thank you for your generosity and God bless you!

Would you like to help fund the work of the ACF?
The best way to help is setting up a monthly direct debit to
Anglican Church in Freiburg e.V.
Sparkasse Freiburg
IBAN: DE29 6805 0101 0002 5119 20
SWIFT / BIC: FRSPDE66
Other giving options, such as online donations, are laid out here on our website.

If you have any questions at all, do not hesitate to contact our treasurers at treasurer@anglican-church-freiburg.de or pick up a Donate Flyer from church.

Praying for each other

If you have personal matters that you would like to be included in the public intercessions during our Sunday morning church services, we encourage you to reach out to our chaplain Vinod Victor (see contact details below). Your concerns, joys, and requests can be shared with the congregation, allowing us to support and uplift one another in prayer. Don’t hesitate to get in touch with the chaplain and let your voice be heard during our Sunday services.
